How and what is the best way to wash linoleum after repair?

What to wash linoleum after repair depends on the type of contamination. Fortunately, thanks to many years of practice in this matter, specialists were able to choose the best means for removing dirt of one type or another.

With the right approach, you can get rid of stains, dried building materials, stains from lime dust in just a few minutes. Moreover, the compositions used will not have a negative impact on the flooring itself, but, on the contrary, will return it to its original shine and attractiveness.

Get rid of whitewashing and cement mix

Even if prudently covering the floors with oilcloth, newspapers or polyethylene, it will not be able to completely protect linoleum from whitewashing and a layer of cement dust. And even in small quantities, these products can make the floors dull and untidy in appearance, how many of them are not my usual means for cleaning.

It is still possible to restore the original appearance of coatings. In this case, the dirt is completely washed off, if we proceed as follows:

  • At first, just thoroughly wash the floors with warm water with the addition of salt (3-4 per bucket) and soap shavings (2-3 per bucket). It is forbidden to use hot water, because of it the surface may lose the brightness of colors.

Tip: Some owners are trying to protect linoleum, covering it with one sheet of polyethylene, which is then glued with adhesive tape to the baseboards. The option is not bad, but only if the skirting boards are then varnished or repainted. Otherwise, a thin layer of glue will remain on their surface, which in a few weeks will collect so much dirt that they will have to be cleaned or updated.

However, after such treatment, a rather sharp smell remains in the room, which can be neutralized with a weak vinegar solution and airing.

How to deal with paint stains?

If paint gets on linoleum, you need to remove it before it is still dry. In this case, do not use soda and other alkaline products. Material from such exposure becomes brittle and brittle, its appearance suffers. It is better to rub a fresh stain with a cloth dipped in vegetable oil. If it doesn’t help, add a little more oil to the dirt and connect a hard brush. Sharp objects are best avoided; they are too easy to ruin the surface.

stain of paint on linoleum

Linoleum with already dried paint with clean solvents. At home, it is best to use the proven White Spirit or its analogues. Only previously recommended to test the product on an inconspicuous piece of material. If everything is fine, apply the composition to a cotton pad, which we press for a couple of minutes to contamination, and then gently wipe. After treatment, be sure to re-wash the floor and rub the surface with linseed oil.

How can you remove the mounting foam and primer?

In the case of mounting foam, there are only two options for exposure, and the choice depends on the condition of the spot:

  1. If it is fresh, then we scrape it off with a spatula, acting from the edges to the center. We work carefully so that the affected area does not increase. After this, the problem area must be treated with a special tool, otherwise traces will remain.
  2. If the product has already begun to dry, then linoleum can be cleaned only after the composition has completely set. In this case, the protruding part is cut to the maximum, and the residues are soaked with a profile product and wiped until the traces completely disappear.

Fresh primer is easily removed with a soft cloth, and its traces are washed off with warm water. The dried product is easiest to remove with a special wash, only need to be rubbed carefully so as not to damage the coating itself. For lack of such, you can use the usual nail polish remover or a weak solution of acetone.
