How to clean feather pillows at home?

Choosing your favorite bedding, you need to find out whether it is easy to clean. A weekly pillowcase change will not be enough to guarantee absolute cleanliness and freshness. A soft and fluffy pillow accumulates a huge amount of dust, which can cause you very allergies. Cleaning bedding is necessary to prevent the appearance of bed bugs in them.

Before choosing the necessary method of cleaning the pillow at home, find out what kind of filler it has. It can be made of the following materials:

• fluff;
• pen;
• synthetic materials (holofiber, polyester, synthetic winterizer);
• foam rubber;
• natural fibers (sheep or camel hair, cotton, bamboo).

Despite the variety of modern bedding fillers, feather pillows have not lost their popularity. The most easy to use pillows with synthetic fillers. Fluff and feather absorb water, which complicates the washing process and quick drying. However, there are effective methods for cleaning feather pillows at home.

Handwash

Hand washing is a difficult and far from fast task. Such cleaning requires patience and accuracy. For its implementation you will need:

• new breastplate;
• liquid powder for washing wool (liquid soap is also suitable);
• a lot of gauze;
• air conditioning for clothes.

From gauze, you need to sew 3 bags for washing the pen. Their size depends on the size of the pillow itself. Spread the old breastplate, take out the entire feather. Divide it into three parts by eye, and place it in prepared covers of gauze. They need to be tied or sewn up very tightly. Dissolve the required amount of powder or soap in warm water and rinse the bags with a feather in them. Water needs to be changed 3 times, and for the last time, add conditioner instead of soap.

Squeeze the gauze covers well so that excess water from the glass pen. In summer, they should be dried outside under the sun. If you decide to clean the bedding in the winter, dry the pen with a warm battery. It must be whipped periodically so that it does not dry out and turn into a lump. Take a new breastplate (you can sew it yourself) and carefully transfer the feathers into it. After opening gauze covers, feathers can fly around the room.

Wash the dust box in advance and vacuum all the feathers that have flown away to place them inside the pillow.

Machine wash

Cleaning with a washing machine is less efficient, but the procedure is much simpler and less time consuming. It is necessary to put two feather pillows at a time in the drum of the machine in order to maintain balance: this way the machine will not “walk with a shake” when squeezing. As a detergent, only liquid powders (for washing wool or silk) should be used. Never use bleach. Water temperature - not higher than 30 degrees, spin mode - minimum. The optimal modes are “Fluff”, “Duvet” and others.

To make cleaning in the washing machine deeper, you can repeat the operation with dividing the pen into three parts. For covers it is better to take old pillowcases, gauze fabric will tear in the drum of the washing machine. You need to set the correct mode, and do not forget about the additional rinse. Pour the air conditioner into the machine while rinsing. After removing the covers with feathers from the drum, put them on a bath towel and roll a tight roller. This will help absorb unnecessary fluid.

Drying of feather products should be carried out no more than 2 days.If cleaning is done in summer, bedding is best dried in the street (in the yard or on the balcony). From time to time, you need to shake the breastplate so that the fluff does not stray into a dense lump and dry out faster. In winter, you need to use a hot battery for drying. If the fluff and feather do not dry out in 2 days, an unpleasant damp smell will appear, the filler will begin to mold.

While the pillow dries, it’s time to clean the bedding. They need to be washed in a washing machine (the higher the temperature, the better the result). If serious contamination (wine, coffee, blood) has occurred and the cover cannot be cleaned, buy new fresh breastplates. You can buy several meters of calico or satin and sew them at home. During fillings with feather-washed feathers, feathers will fly around the house. Spread the largest sheet and carry out an operation on it.
