How to clean the plastic to the state of novelty?
New plastic surfaces look beautiful and fresh until yellow spots appear. Soap does not take these terrible stains, so you have to look for an effective tool for cleaning plastic from yellow and gray. Fortunately, such cleaning fluids can be bought at the store.
What to buy in the store
Special products suitable for cleaning:
- window sills and frames;
- refrigerators;
- vinyl wallpaper;
- garden furniture;
- car doors and panels.
Liquids are applied to the surface, aged and wiped with a rag. Do not forget to rinse the substances thoroughly so that they do not remain on the surface and do not pass onto your hands! Gloves recommended.

Despite such a variety of means, their composition is approximately the same. Liquids contain:
- artificial wax;
- fluorine-containing polymers;
- solvents;
- binders.
The components break down the dirt, overwrite the scratches, cover the plastic surface with a protective film. Some products contain silicone with water repellent properties.
Before buying, be sure to read the composition and purpose of the product so as not to damage the surface.
Do it yourself
If the store is far away or do not want to get out into the fresh air, you can clean the plastic with improvised means. They are less effective than industrial chemistry, but can help with little pollution. Stubborn yellowness will have to be washed long and painfully.
What might help:
- ammonia;
- hydrogen peroxide;
- bleach (removes mold);
- laundry soap;
- nail polish remover (without acetone).
It is better to dilute the bleach with water (tablespoon per liter).
For severe contamination in its pure form, you can use peroxide, ammonia and a varnish remover. In any case, before cleaning, test the selected substance in an inconspicuous area. Dampen a sponge or rag in the liquid and rub the dirty area thoroughly. Soak for a few minutes and rinse.
What is better not to use
Plastic is a delicate material that begins to dissolve under the influence of aggressive substances and becomes rough. In order not to spoil the surface, it is recommended to exclude from the arsenal of detergents and equipment:
- any abrasives - powders, metal brushes, nets, knives;
- acetone, white spirit and other strong solvents;
- acids and alkalis;
- melamine sponge.
If yellowness does not wash off the first time, apply the detergent again and soak for a couple of minutes. Try not to scratch the surface, use foam sponges and soft brushes.
It is sufficient to use strong agents once or twice a year to remove strong contaminants. For regular care, polishes and soapy water are suitable. Do not wash plastic surfaces with hot water. Rinse detergents thoroughly and ventilate surfaces after cleaning.
