How to properly and carefully whiten a white shirt at home?

A white shirt is a universal thing, as you know, it can be worn both at a meeting and at an evening event - both there and there it will look absolutely appropriate. But sooner or later the end of life of this thing comes after one accidentally planted spot, and the question arises: how to bleach a white shirt, removing all the dirt at home? Unfortunately, not everyone can give an answer, but because your favorite wardrobe item flies into the trash can - and after all, most likely, it could be saved by simple means. What - read on.

General shirt whitening

    1. Hydrogen peroxide.Good old peroxide saved more than one shirt. For washing, it is enough to prepare two liters of water at room temperature and pour a teaspoon of peroxide into it. If you are afraid that the thing will turn yellow, you can add 5 grams of soda with calcium to the solution. Mix the resulting composition well and leave your shirt in it for about twenty minutes, occasionally shaking the solution.

      Tip

This "recipe" is designed to whiten shirts from synthetic fabrics. If your shirt is made of natural textiles, such as cotton, then the water temperature can even be increased, although the soaking time will have to be halved.

    2. Hydroperite.
By the way, hydroperite can become a substitute for hydrogen peroxide at home. It is available in tablets, which must be dissolved in water (9 pieces per 10 liters). Further soaking occurs in the same way as in the case of peroxide.
    3. Ammonia.
A modified version of soaking with peroxide is whitening "peroxide + ammonia." Indeed, ammonia not only brings to life perfectly, but also removes pollution - even with suede or nubuck. Alcohol will cope with a white shirt with a bang - for this it is only necessary to combine five liters of warm water, a tablespoon of peroxide and the same amount of ammonia. Please note: before soaking, the shirt must be washed beforehand. Leave the white shirt in the water for half an hour - the reaction will take place on its own, while you can go about your business or ventilate the room from the pungent smell of ammonia.

  1. Boiling.
Another option for whitening, familiar to our mothers and grandmothers, is boiling. True, it is suitable only for cotton, which will not shrink. To get started, take a shirt and rub the soap with dirt. Make sure that the house always has a high-quality laundry soap (72%) that will not leave yellow stains on things. Wait until the soap is absorbed into the fibers of the fabric (20-30 minutes) and start boiling: take a pot of water, add washing powder to it, bring the water to a boil and throw the shirt there for half an hour. It is recommended to stir the item periodically in water.
  2. Salt.
But bleaching synthetics will help table salt. This method is, of course, suitable for products with a low level of contamination. Take water and dissolve salt in it in a proportion of 40 grams per 4 liters of hot water. Wait until the water cools down, otherwise you run the risk of getting a thing one size smaller after soaking! In warm water (about 40 degrees) put a shirt and leave for two hours. Rinse the item thoroughly after soaking!

So, we examined various ways of general bleaching shirts at home. But what about single spots? Is there really no salvation from them? Do not worry, our ancestors came up with everything long before us.

Stain on a white shirt

Stain fighting

  • Ball pen

The most common and familiar problem for office workers, students, and schoolchildren is ballpoint pens. One awkward movement - and a snow-white shirt, it would seem, is forever ruined. However, a relatively fresh stain or stroke can be removed using cologne. Spray, and even better - pour cologne on the dirt, hold for a couple of minutes, and then wash this place with laundry soap. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again.

  • Chocolate

Another danger awaits us during the lunch break. How to remove a chocolate stain? There is one unusual, but effective advice: mix 100 grams of liquid soap and 20 grams of flour in hot water. With this composition, hold the item for at least twenty minutes, and then stretch in cold water. Of course, this method is only suitable for shirts that do not sit down.
Red and white wine

  • Wine and Food

White shirts are an attribute of not only a working dress code, but also an evening one. Therefore, they often fly into the bin or tear on rags due to a planted stain from wine or food. Next time, try to fill the spot with salt, wait a little and soak the shirt in a solution with ammonia, the recipe of which is described above. But the old wine stains should first be soaked in hot milk.

  • Fatty food

Evening activities rarely do without fried food. The greasy stains that she leaves on clothes are very difficult to remove at home. They need to be wiped with a solution of ammonia and water (one to two), and then washed in warm water.
