How to wash and dry a wig made of natural hair and Kanekalon at home

Wash a wig from artificial hair if necessary. Experts advise washing it no more than 1 time in 45 days. The procedure requires the implementation of a number of rules that will ensure the durability of the product.

Slips are made of natural and artificial materials. Wash them a lot harder than washing your hair and hair. When caring for a wig at home, it is important to consider what material it is made of.

Assortment of wigs

Natural or artificial?

An overlay made of human hair looks very natural, which justifies its high cost. It is very difficult to recognize such a wig with the naked eye. Natural products are made from human hair, complementing them with ponytail hair, the hair of Tibetan goats or yaks, as well as flax or hemp fibers.

The most valuable are handmade pads. The hairs are attached to a cap (montage) of special material in such a way as to repeat their natural growth. In addition to aesthetics, natural overlays have other advantages: they can be cut, curled and dyed with regular hair dye (but you can’t part with these procedures). This allows you to change the image without spending money.

Inexpensive linings are made from artificial materials such as vinyl, polyamide, acrylic. The head under them sweats, which makes the sock unbearable (especially in summer). To the touch, such a product is tough and unnatural. It has an unnatural “puppet” shine. The ends of the hair are quickly tangled and split. Strands are sewn in large pieces, manufacturers do not imitate the natural growth of hairs.

Kanekalon wigs belong to the group of artificial, although this material is made on the basis of algae. The hair looks “lively” and elastic, the product has a natural look. It perfectly retains its shape in humid weather, but is afraid of sudden temperature changes. Only a thermofiber wig can withstand heat.

  2. the washing up. Type warm water into the basin. Moisten the wig and lather with shampoo for split ends. You need to wash the product carefully, without sudden movements. Most contaminated area of the forehead, temples and neck. These areas need to be washed especially intensively.
  3. Rinse. Rinse off the shampoo with a weak pressure of cold water from the roots to the tips.
  4. Air conditioning. The use of balm is necessary. It is applied to the tips to give the strands a silkiness and elasticity. Rinse off the balm in the same way as a shampoo.
  5. Drying. The wig should be easily wrung out with a towel. It can not be rubbed and squeezed. Spread the strands on a dry towel and leave to dry completely. The hair dryer is practically harmless to the hair, but can lead to deformation of a given styling.

You can do the styling at home yourself. It is allowed to use a hair dryer or curling iron (only at the tips). If you want to change the hairstyle, a professional hairdresser should work on the wig.

Synthetic wig

Synthetics

The procedure for washing artificial wigs (acrylic, polyamide, vinyl) is not much different from caring for a natural product. Before washing the pad at home, comb the strands with a comb or untangle by hand. It is advisable to wash the wig in a basin of warm water. It is allowed to wash under the tap (under a weak pressure of warm water). Artificial hair is prone to tangling, so avoid sudden, rough movements.

After washing off the shampoo, apply conditioner or a mask for brittle hair. This will facilitate further combing and styling. Using a hair dryer, ironing, curling and drying near heat sources is strictly prohibited. Put the squeezed wig on a jar or a special stand and leave to dry completely at room temperature. At home, it must be stored on a special or simulated holder.

Kanekalon Soaked Wig

Kanekalon and thermal fiber

To strands of Kanekalon looked elastic and silky, you must follow the rules of washing, drying and styling. It is better to wash such a product in boiled water with diluted shampoo for dry hair. Change the water in the basin. Add 2 tbsp. l balm for dry or brittle hair. Leave the Kanekalon product in solution with balsam for 20 minutes. Put the wet pad on a towel and squeeze slightly. Do not rub or twist the towel; this can tear out strands and deform the wig.

Drying is only possible in cold air mode.

Thermofiber wigs should be washed in the same way. The only exception is that it can be laid at home after drying. Thermofiber is resistant to high temperature, it is not afraid of a curling iron or ironing. However, it is better not to use a dryer for drying: there is a risk of damaging the hair attachment to the hairpin.
