For Converse analogues, automatic washing is completely contraindicated; they can only be washed by hand. Read on all the nuances of caring for white and color sneakers, and you can return them to their original appearance in 3 accounts.

Shoe cleaning

Laundry Prep

Any washing, both machine and manual, requires the preparation of things (and in our case, shoes). Sneakers need to be freed from removable parts and cleaned of coarse dirt.

What exactly should be done?

  1. Take out the insoles and laces. If there are decorative elements on the buttons, they must also be removed and washed separately.
  2. Arm yourself with a stiff brush and walk along the sole above the bin. Remove all pebbles and trash stuck in the sole pattern.
  3. Shake sand and dust out of sneakers. Beat the top with clapping movements.
  4. Wet the sole with a rag and leave it on for 5 minutes. Wash the softened dirt.

The pre-cleaning procedure is not unnecessary work, as it may seem at the beginning. If you don’t hold it, the dirt on the sneakers will mix with water and penetrate into the deep layers of the fabric, from where it will be much more difficult to wash it. In addition, sometimes a good cleaning is enough to make the shoes sparkle like new.

To get rid of the unpleasant smell in the shoes, it is not necessary to wash it. Try filling dry sneakers with baking soda and leave overnight. In the morning, shake everything well and go inside with a brush to remove any residue. The smell of sweat should go. If not, you can try washing the insoles separately in soapy water.

Washing sneaker in the washing machine

Washing sneaker in the washing machine

For various Converse models there are some nuances of leaving. But basically, the original shoes perfectly tolerate machine wash.

The exception is:

  • leather sneakers;
  • textile with volumetric metal decor (fixed).

Such models are washed by hand. The rest can be safely loaded into the machine, previously put in a bag for delicate washing (it can be replaced with an old pillowcase). The mode is set to manual or delicate, with a temperature of 30 degrees and an extraction of not more than 500 revolutions.

The washing of the sneaker is carried out according to the same principle as the laundry: white with white, color with color, black separately. Powder or gel is poured into the compartment, respectively.

So, how to wash textile Converse in a typewriter?

  1. Wrap surface cleaned sneakers without laces and insoles in a bag for delicate washing and load into the drum.
  2. Pour the powder into the powder compartment or pour the washing gel according to the instructions on the packaging. White sneakers can be washed with the addition of oxygen bleach. For the rest, you need to choose a tool marked "for colored things."
  3. If the sneakers are very dirty, you can add a stain remover in the same compartment (the liquid ones are placed in a special cap or cuvette). Again, you need to pay attention to what things the product is intended for - for color or for white.
  4. Next, select the “delicate wash” mode. If it is not - "manual". Or you can set the temperature to 30-40 degrees, wash time 1 hour and spin at 500 rpm.
  5. Wait for the wash to finish and dry your shoes.

So that no stains remain on fabric sneakers, it is recommended to give preference to liquid powders and choose an additional rinse.

Sneakers are dried after washing

Hand wash

Washing your sneakers with your hands the old fashioned way is the most reliable method.Moreover, knowing some of the subtleties, in this way you can achieve a much better effect than machine.

But first, remember a few rules:

  • No hot water. Not only glue is destroyed from it, but also the fabric (it is deformed, sheds).
  • Duration of washing with soaking - no longer than 1 hour.
  • Bulk products must first be dissolved in warm water so that they do not clog the fabric.
  • Gum shoes can and should be, but only with a soft brush, otherwise they will be covered with spools.

For handwashing, most of the dirt on the sneakers should go away when soaked. To do this, use several options for solutions:

  • 2 tbsp. tablespoons of baking soda, 3 tbsp. tablespoons of vinegar (white sneakers only);
  • 3 tbsp. spoons of laundry soap;
  • 2 teaspoons dishwashing detergent, 2 tbsp. tablespoons of vinegar;
  • 5 tbsp. tablespoons of salt (from fresh traces of grass);
  • a commercially available stain remover or oxygen bleach in a standard dosage;
  • “Mr. Muscle” or another glass cleaner (for Converse white).

The selected product is dissolved in 2 liters of water, then sneakers are placed there for 15-40 minutes. Or the composition is applied directly to the fabric, but then the exposure time is from 5 to 15 minutes (the solution must not be allowed to dry). You can also use a melamine sponge as a stain remover. After wetting it, you need to actively rub the stain, and then wash the sneakers as usual. Another similar option is rubbing with a wet alcohol wipe.

If you bleach “converse”, the composition should be applied not only to the external, but also to the internal side, paying particular attention to seams and folds. Otherwise, in untreated areas, the shade will be different.

So, the shoes are cleared of clods of dirt, the laces and insoles are removed, and strong spots are soaked. Now you can wash the sneakers.

  1. Pour warm (30 degrees) water into the basin, add powder or washing gel to it. Standard - 1 tbsp. 3 liter spoon
  2. Dip sneakers in a soapy solution and brush over the surface inside and out with a brush.
  3. Wash insoles and laces in the same way.
  4. Change the water and rinse the “converse” until the water stops foaming. It usually takes 3-5 times to change the water.
  5. Hang the sneakers to dry by tying them to the rope with laces.

To clean the sole of scratches, as well as to remove yellowness, such means help:

  • stationery eraser;
  • acetone;
  • "White";
  • "Domestos";
  • toothpaste with whitening effect;
  • baking soda.

Any of the products is gently applied to the rubber part and then brushed off with an old toothbrush. The sole becomes snow-white, the main thing is not to get out of the edges and not harm the tissue.

How to dry sneakers?

Proper drying is of paramount importance. If you make a mistake at this stage, the fabric will lose its shape, may fade or become covered with stains.

It is forbidden to dry textile shoes in the following ways:

  • in the oven;
  • a stream of hot air;
  • near a heater or battery.

Also, you can’t shoe dry sneakers, otherwise they will stretch. Dry Converse in the shade in a well-ventilated area or in the fresh air. Inside the sneaker, to preserve the shape, it is necessary to push the crumpled paper (it should be white to avoid reprinting of the paint).

Rinse the white sneakers after washing with water and lemon juice (1 tbsp.spoon per glass) and leave to dry in the sun. They will whiten even more.

Washing Converse sneakers and their analogues has its own nuances. But in general, caring for even snow-white models is simple. Original shoes can be washed in a washing machine, setting a delicate mode. Other fabric sneakers are less durable, so they are washed manually. The main thing is to follow the instructions, and everything will work out!
