We erase the huge plaid so that it remains fluffy and soft

A soft warm plaid is associated with comfort, coziness and silence. It is so pleasant on a cold winter evening, comfortably sitting in a rocking chair and covered with a fluffy coverlet, reading an interesting book or watching your favorite movie. However, any textiles become dirty over time, and then the question arises for the hostess: how to wash the plaid? The method of cleaning this bulky product depends on the material from which it is made.

Terry blanket in the washing machine

Which product can be washed?

The cleaning of any textiles begins with the examination of the care information printed by the manufacturer on the label. Not so long ago, the word "plaid" meant a thick blanket of wool, cashmere or alpaca, knitted with their own hands, which could only be washed manually. Today on sale you can find similar products from cotton and linen, fleece and polyester, microfiber and bamboo. All of them are manufactured at industrial enterprises using the latest technology and durable dyes and can easily withstand machine wash.

The choice of cleaning method depends on the following factors:

  • the composition of the fabric from which the textile is made;
  • the presence of complex dirt and stains;
  • color fastness;
  • product volume.

Fleece blanket
Usually, only thin small plaids of light materials are washed in a typewriter: nylon, polyester, fleece. The main thing is that there should be enough free space in the drum after the thing requiring cleaning is laid there.

To wash the plaid as little as possible, it must be properly stored:

  • in a paper or fabric bag where good ventilation (not in a plastic bag);
  • fold into a roll so that creases do not form;
  • keep away from moths.

Usually such things are washed 2-3 times a year. It is better to clean local contaminants with a stain remover or wipe the area with a stain with laundry soap.

Woolen Plaids

Woolen blankets, capes and bedspreads

Woolen blanket - a classic option. Warm, comfortable, durable, breathable. Sometimes in order to freshen up textiles made of natural wool, it is enough to ventilate it for a while by hanging it on the street or on the balcony. If the product is very dirty, it can be washed at home, although this work is not easy. Despite the fact that many washing machines have the “Wool” mode, it is undesirable to use the machine. It is better to conduct gentle washing in manual mode.

First of all, you need to decide on a detergent. Specialists advise using a special gel to wash wool. It perfectly stretches the thing in not too hot water, it is washed well when rinsing. Instead of gel, you can use baby soap or regular hair shampoo. Fine soap is made from soap, which is thoroughly dissolved in water. The main thing is to achieve abundant foam. When rinsing the plaid to keep it soft and fluffy, conditioner is added to the water.

Hand wash the wool blanket as follows:

  1. water is collected in a large container (basin or bath), the temperature of which does not exceed 30 ° C;
  2. add detergent and whip a plentiful foam;
  3. soak a thing for 15 minutes;
  4. washed with light translational movements, then pulling out, then immersing back in the liquid;
  5. rinse the item several times in cool water, add conditioner at the last rinse.

In order not to damage the structure of the wool fiber, the product is not wrung out and not twisted.

After washing, the plaid is taken out of the water and laid out on a grate installed above the bath. When the water drains, the product can be dried with a towel, and then laid out to dry.

The place for drying must be prepared in advance. A blanket is spread on the floor or large table, on which the wet product is laid out. So that the plaid does not warp and does not decrease in size, it can be fixed around the perimeter with pins.

Silk and cashmere products are also recommended to be washed only by hand, not subject to twisting and wringing.

Wash Synthetic Plaid

Rules for washing synthetic rugs

Along with woolen blankets, products made of synthetic and artificial materials: fleece, microfiber, polyester, fur, are very popular. Such textiles are much cheaper, however, they cope perfectly with their responsibilities - to warm and give comfort.

You can wash synthetic bedspreads both in the machine and manually. The main thing is to find out the permissible water temperature from the information on the label before starting the process. Typically, this value ranges from + 30 ° C to + 60 ° C.

When washing by hand, the same rules should be followed as when cleaning a woolen blanket. In the case of synthetics only, spin can be treated less carefully. A polyester or microfiber product can be squeezed slightly, this will not damage the material and will not destroy the structure of the fibers.

To wash a large blanket in a car, use the following algorithm:

  1. the product without preliminary soaking is placed in a drum;
  2. gel is poured into the detergent compartment or a capsule is placed between the folds of the product;
  3. set the "Synthetics" mode and water temperature + 30 ° С - + 60 ° С, spin - at low speeds.

After the completion of the process, the product is removed from the machine and hung to dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not dry the synthetic blanket in the washing machine, on batteries, or on portable heaters. With strong heating, the polyester fibers are deformed and can even melt, as a result of which the plaid will lose its shape and attractiveness.

Faux Fur Blanket

Long-nap blankets

Often, faux fur or weed is used to make plaids. Products made from these materials are obtained not less warm than from natural wool, but also fluffy, pleasant to the touch, not requiring special care.

If the fur blanket is dirty and needs to be washed, first of all it is necessary to shake it carefully, freeing it from dust, sand and small debris clogged between the villi. It is possible to wash such a product manually and in the machine - as long as it fits in the drum. So that a large blanket does not introduce an imbalance during washing, it can be rolled up and tied with a rope.

Cleaning is carried out at a water temperature of + 40 ° C, in a delicate mode. When rinsing add air conditioning. You can turn on the spin, but only at low speeds. Before hanging the plaid to dry, it is dubbed with a terry towel to remove as much liquid as possible.

Dry a faux fur product by hanging it on a rope or laying it out on a flat surface. From the action of water and detergent, thin synthetic fibers stick together, and the dried plaid looks careless. To return the product to its original appearance, you need to comb it with a clothes brush.

Linen plaid

Cotton and linen blankets

In summer and spring, plaids of cotton and linen are especially in demand. Natural materials do not require special care, however, non-observance of the cleaning rules may lead to the product shedding or decreasing in size.

The washing of cotton and linen bedspreads is carried out in machine mode at a water temperature of + 40 ° C, by setting the switch to "Cotton". It is better to wring it out at low speeds, otherwise strong creases will form on the fabric, which are difficult to iron out.

For washing white blankets, powder with oxygen bleach can be used. Products with a bright colorful color, it is better to wash with powder with enzymes.

Large fluffy rugs are most easily attributed to dry cleaning, where they will be put in order for a moderate amount.If this is not possible, then you can wash the product at home. The main thing is to accurately determine what material the product is made of, and follow the recommendations of specialists.
