How to wash roller blinds, how to remove stains and not damage the canvas?

Rolshtora along with vertical blinds and Roman curtains are becoming increasingly popular in the design of modern interiors. How to wash the roller blinds and properly care for them so that they last a long time?

The canvas can be made of various fabric materials. One property unites them - the fabric is treated with a special compound that repels dust and dirt. It is clear that washing will not benefit such a coating. Therefore, wet shutters should be exposed as little as possible.

By the way, roller blinds can be sewn by yourself. In this case, you choose the fabric yourself and you can well choose a wear-resistant material that is washed without any special restrictions. You just need to take measures so that the fabric does not deform, use gentle washing and spinning modes, dry it flat, follow the recommendations for ironing.

But back to the roller blinds, bought at the store or custom made.

How to care for roller blinds?

To avoid the need to wash roller blinds, follow the recommendations for caring for roller blinds.

  • You should not hang such curtains in the immediate vicinity of heating sources - a gas stove, heating radiators, heat generators.
  • Rolshtora is not recommended for use in rooms with high humidity and pollution, high temperature.
  • Before washing the windows, fold the curtain. It is better to purchase canvases with a protective tube or cassette. Also always raise the curtains if you are cooking any dishes on the stove. This will protect them from excess dirt and cooking oil.
  • Do not allow creases and bends of the canvas during operation.
  • You can ventilate the room with the curtains down - a draft will save the fabric from the accumulated dust.
  • Wash fabric shutters only if dry cleaning does not save the situation.
  • Lubricate the web lift only with special silicone greases.

Brush

Dry clean

Before washing roller blinds, resort to dry cleaning. Thanks to dirt-repellent impregnation, dust accumulates only on the surface of the canvas, without penetrating deep into the fabric. Therefore, once a week or two, wipe the material with a slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the curtain with force; use only soft cloths as a rag.

For enhanced cleaning use a vacuum cleaner. It is advisable to use a special fabric nozzle.

Foam sponge

How to wash the curtains?

If dry cleaning does not save the situation, then the curtains need to be washed. Most canvases for roller blinds are made of 100% polyester. It is a durable synthetic material, but it has its own weaknesses. Therefore, it must be handled with care, and the use of aggressive cleaning agents should be left for other coatings. It is best to take the curtains to dry cleaning - so you get guaranteed cleanliness and do not ruin the coating. If this option does not suit you, then proceed to do it yourself.

Wash roller blinds as follows.

  • The procedure is most conveniently performed in the bathroom.
  • Remove the blade from the lift mechanism.
  • Lay out the curtain in the bathroom so that the fabric does not wrinkle and does not form creases.
  • Dilute detergent in any container. It should have a neutral pH so that the effect on impregnation is minimal. If you are using powder, make sure the grains are completely dissolved.
  • Moisten a sponge in a detergent solution and apply light curtains to the fabric. No need to zeal and rub the surface hard.
  • Rinse off the detergent and rinse thoroughly under the shower.

Important!

If the material is poorly rinsed, residues of detergent can damage the fabric. When burned out in the sun, ugly spots and stains will appear on the curtain.

Let the water drain and lay the canvas on a horizontal surface for drying. When the fabric dries, the curtains can be hung on the shaft. If necessary, you can iron the seams of the canvas with the nose of the iron. Ironing the sheet itself is not recommended.

Stain on the canvas

Stain removal

If a spot appears on the curtain’s canvas, you can get rid of it in one of the following ways.

  • Do not rush to resort to dry cleaning. Try rubbing the stain with a regular stationery eraser. Do not rub too hard so as not to damage the fabric.
  • If the eraser does not help, use a natural stain remover. When buying a product, be sure to find out if it can be used for polyester (or other material from which your blinds are made). Do not rush to process the fabric immediately - first test the effect of stain remover on an inconspicuous area of the canvas.

Ironing prohibited sign

What can not be done?

As we can see, roller blinds are unpretentious in the care and washing. It is enough to avoid unwanted actions so that they will serve you faithfully for many years.

These are the manipulations that cannot be performed with fabric roller blinds.

  • It is strictly forbidden to wash roller blinds in the washing machine. Such treatment, despite the fact that the curtain’s canvas is made of fabric, will irreversibly ruin the material. Accordingly, spinning and drying in a machine version are also unacceptable.
  • When drying, use horizontal surfaces. Carefully straighten the material, avoid bending and creasing of the fabric - if a defect has formed on the canvas, it is almost impossible to fix it.
  • Do not iron the fabric. If necessary, you can iron the seams, while using gauze or a special grid for ironing.
  • Do not use aggressive liquids such as gasoline, acetone and other solvents to remove stains.
  • To wash the curtains, do not rub them too hard, do not use abrasive powders or other harsh cleaning agents.

So, we found out that washing fabric blinds is necessary only in case of emergency. It is best to take them to dry cleaning, but you can wash the canvas at home. Use a mild detergent with a neutral pH, do not rub the surface with hard sponges, rinse the product thoroughly after washing. With this treatment, roller blinds will retain their excellent qualities and will last you a long time.
