How to wash viscose products so that it does not sit down?
If you have recently acquired a delicate dress made of artificial silk or a new bright blouse, you need to know how to wash viscose. Just one wrong decision can ruin your favorite thing. Viscose, or rayon, as it was called by the people, has been popular for over a century. The fabric has several advantages over other synthetic materials, for which many clothing manufacturers have come to love.
- It absorbs moisture well.
- Easy to stain.
- It lets air in, allowing the body to "breathe."
The basis of the material is wood pulp. Despite the second name, the fabric does not always resemble natural silk. By experimenting, manufacturers learned how to make matter resembling wool, cotton and linen in structure. Since viscose is a “lady” luxurious, but finicky, she needs proper care. Having stood one wash in the drum of the washing machine in the wrong mode, the viscose dress will turn into old rags.
Laundry Prep
In order not to spoil a viscose blouse or dress once and for all, study the tag on the wrong side of the thing. Most often, the manufacturer indicates the exact recommendations for washing, drying and ironing. Adhering to them, you will not have to say goodbye to things ahead of time.
If the tag is cut off and you have not previously encountered a machine wash of viscose, follow the rules.
- Sort all the elements of the wardrobe by color (viscose products are often painted in bright colors that can fade during washing).
- Check if the pockets are empty (a forgotten metal element can provoke rust on the fabric and harm the washing machine).
- Button buttons, zippers, rivets.
- Turn all things inside out, this helps to extend their durability.
Soak
Soaking is only required in the event of severe contamination and is not a necessary washing step. Perhaps a passing car doused you with dirty water or the kid decided to play in the sandbox in an elegant viscose suit. So that the dirt must be washed away, the thing must be soaked in soapy water for at least half an hour.
Type cold water into the basin (maximum 30 degrees). Pour a small amount of hand wash powder. More suitable are special liquid detergents for washing wool or delicate fabrics. If you do not have any of the listed products in your home, make a strong solution of washing soap. The thing needs to be soaked for half an hour, then it is easy to squeeze and send to the drum of the washing machine.

Do not rub the contaminated area with your hands or brushes, as this will damage the structure of the fabric.
Hand wash
The question of how to wash viscose is especially acute, because this fabric sits after improper washing. If you are not limited by time, wash the product manually. In this case, you need to soak the thing, and then gently wash it with light movements. You can not rub it and squeeze it with force. Watch the temperature of the water - it should not exceed 30 degrees.
Machine wash
The special modes that are present in all modern models of washing machines allow you to wash even delicate items. Things from viscose are no exception. Set the program “Hand wash” or the “Delicate” mode in the machine. The water temperature in such modes usually does not exceed 30 degrees. Having set a higher temperature, do not be surprised that your favorite thing has sat down.
Make sure the spin function is disabled. Typically, washing in delicate mode involves automatically turning off the spin.To protect clothes from mechanical damage in the machine, you need to use a special bag for washing machines.
If after washing in compliance with all the rules the thing still sat down, then:
- the purchased product turned out to be of poor quality;
- the item is made of viscose with admixtures of wool, acrylic or polyester.
Drying and ironing
To preserve the "presentation" of a viscose product, forget about machine drying. You can not hang things on radiators or coils with warm water. The ideal option for drying viscose is a horizontal surface. Lay a thick terry towel, and on top lay out a wet, slightly wrung out product and smooth out noticeable bruises with your hands. To remove excess moisture, lay another towel on top and press it with your palms.
Tip
Avoid direct sunlight when drying.
It is possible to iron viscose only from the wrong side. This will not spoil the appearance. Set the iron to the lowest temperature setting. It is advisable to use gauze when ironing. If bruises remain on the fabric, sprinkle them with water. Using the steaming function is prohibited.
