Four reasons why towels are tough after washing in a vending machine

Soft and fluffy terry things are an indispensable component of home comfort. Often the housewives ask themselves - why after washing the towels become hard and rough to the touch? How to avoid such troubles?

Terry products can become tough for several reasons. What needs to be done so that after washing they remain soft and fluffy and how to restore the already rough fabric to its original qualities?

Reasons Towels Are Hard

The fabric can become coarse and unpleasant to the touch when both machine and hand wash. True, it is much easier to ruin a towel when washing in a car - after all, manual processing more carefully cleans the material, and even your hands will not allow you to use too hot water and low-quality powders.

The deterioration in the quality of terry things occurs for several reasons.

  • Hard water. Unfortunately, in most regions of our country, water contains a significant amount of lime salts. Settling in the fibers of the fabric, they degrade the quality of any material. Hard water must be softened. How to do this, we will tell a little below.
  • The quality of the detergent. In this regard, terry is a rather capricious material that does not like powders. Therefore, it is best to resort to using liquid detergents.
  • Wrong washing mode - too hot water, poor rinsing, spinning at high speeds.
  • Improper handling. Some housewives manage to boil terry towels or iron them without a steamer. Doing this is strongly discouraged.

So how can you wash your terry clothes in order not to worsen their original properties?

How to wash towels so that they remain soft?

So that after washing your towels are soft and fluffy, treat them carefully. Here are a few secrets to handling terry products. Put them into practice - and your towels and bathrobes will never become harsh and rough.

  • Use high-quality, expensive detergents for washing. Terry products do not tolerate washing with powders, so choose liquid products. It is better if they are marked "environmentally friendly", that is, without phosphates and chlorine.
  • If you do wash with powder, use the extra rinse function. Rinse terry products after the powder you need three to four times. This will help to wash the chemicals settled there from the villi of the tissue.
  • Use bleaches only for bright things and only if necessary. It is better to bleach contaminated items separately before or after washing.
  • Now about the quality of water. If the water in your area is hard, then ordinary table vinegar will help soften it. Add 100-200 ml per 10 liters of water with each wash. When machine washing half a glass of vinegar, you can pour it into the air conditioning compartment - so you soften the water at the last rinse.
  • Machine wash should be gentle. Wash terry items at a temperature not exceeding 40 ° C. Set the minimum washing time - after all, the towels are not so dirty as outerwear, so just scroll through them in quick mode.

Attention!

Terry towels can not be boiled. To clean them of persistent dirt, soak overnight in double amount of detergent, and wash in the morning.

  • Do not use water saving modes.
  • Load the machine drum at a maximum of 2/3 of the volume.
  • Do not use conventional air conditioning for terry products. Use silicone-based conditioners or fabric softeners. If you purchased a silicone rinse, do not overdo it with the amount - it reduces the absorption of moisture in a towel.

To ensure optimal washing conditions, buy special plastic balls in the store. They are loaded into the drum of the machine along with the laundry, and during the washing process they mechanically break the terry fibers, making the towel soft and gentle to the touch again.

Spin and rinse

Spin mode

Using the delicate washing mode, do not forget about the spin cycle. Terry products are not recommended to wring out at high speeds of the drum. The maximum that you can set is 500 rpm. If you have no problems with drying and you are sure that the towels will not be blocked due to slow drying, then use the 300-350 rpm mode.

You do not need to squeeze a towel at all. Use non-spin modes or wool programs. After completing the washing process, remove items from the machine, squeeze slightly and hang to drain. A fabric washed in this way will be softer and more fluffy.

Towel drying

Proper drying

Another important point is the proper drying of terry products.

  • Towels can be dried in a vertical and horizontal position. Before you hang the towel on the dryer, shake it well so that all the fibers are as straight as possible.
  • Terry products are very fond of fresh air. If possible, dry them on the street - so they will not only remain soft, but also get a wonderful smell.
  • Mahra can also be dried in an electric dryer. Such drying will not make them stiff, but rather give the product softness.
  • Do not dry the towels - this also makes terry things rude to the touch.

As mentioned above, ironing towels with an iron is not recommended. But if nevertheless such a need arose, use the steaming mode at a temperature of no higher than 150 ° C. It is also good to use the vertical steaming function.

Fluffy terry towels

How to make the towel soft again?

But what about old products or towels that suddenly become harsh and rude? The following recipes will help restore mahre to its former softness.

  • If the towel has become hard due to washing powder, soak it in cold water overnight, then rinse and hang to dry. Water will wash the remaining powder from the villi and make the product softer.
  • Old towels can be soaked after washing in a solution of sodium chloride for 20-30 minutes. Also, salt can be added during washing to the powder compartment at the rate of 1-2 tablespoons per 4-5 kg of laundry.

And finally, a few more tips for the care of terry towels.

  • Do not throw used towels in the shared basket. They will absorb odors from dirty clothes.
  • Wash towels immediately or hang them to dry before putting them in the laundry tub.
  • Do not wash clothes with metal fasteners, zippers or hooks with towels. It is good to use a bag for washing clothes - so you protect the product from puffs. If, after all, puffs appeared, then it does not matter. Gently cut them with scissors. Do not be afraid that the fabric will open - the terry is made in a woven way and, unlike knitted items, does not give arrows.

So, terry towels - quite unpretentious products, but require compliance with certain rules of washing and drying. Do not wash them at high temperatures, use the delicate wash mode, use mild detergents. Do not dry on batteries or iron. Subject to these simple recommendations, your towels will always remain soft and delicate.

Washed an expensive terry towel for the first time. I used liquid Laska gel, an air conditioner with Eared Nanny silicone, put a special weight in the drum of the washing machine, the color fabric mode is 40 degrees, spin cycle 600, double rinse, shake and dry the towel in the cold. And as a result, the towel noticeably lost its fluffiness.
He washed his car towel several times with his hands, laundry soap without air conditioning, strong wringing with his hands, and drying in the bathroom — he did not notice any changes in fluffiness. My conclusion: all the advice is past!
