The many advantages of cotton blankets are undeniable: they do not cause allergies, are light and natural, serve as a good source of heat. But all these positive aspects fade when you have to think about how to wash a cotton blanket.

Dry cleaning is contraindicated for these products, and they simply cannot fit in the washing machine. Of course, you can buy a new blanket after every serious pollution or accumulation of dust in the filler, the price of the item allows this completely, but there are other options. If desired, the functional thing is quickly restored at home, but for this you will have to seriously work.

Features of using a washing machine to clean the product

A baby cotton blanket fits completely in the machine, therefore, with this product rapidly losing its purity and freshness, there will not be any special problems (at least before the drying procedure). However, first you need to make sure that after getting wet, the item will not weigh critically much and will not provoke damage to household appliances.

At the same time, it is necessary to wash a cotton blanket with the following parameters:

1. The maximum water temperature is set at 40ºС.
2. The washing mode should be delicate or manual. The number of revolutions can be set independently at the lowest possible rate.

Tip: Together with a blanket, it is recommended to load several new tennis balls into the machine, then the material will not roll so much.

3. It is better to replace the traditional washing powder with a liquid analogue, then there will be no problems with the procedure of washing the composition from the fibers.
4. Spin on the washing machine will have to be turned off altogether, otherwise the blanket will have to be thrown out. The main volume of water must be removed manually, performing pressure, not twisting movements. In addition, you can work with terry towels.

Immediately after removing it from the washing machine, the item must be dried, otherwise it will be practically impossible to break up the lumps later. And this is not only not very attractive and not convenient, but also the risk of mold and yellow stains.

Rules for manual cleaning of a cotton blanket

The only option for restoring the freshness and cleanliness of the overall cotton quilt is its manual processing. It may take more than one hour to spend it at home, but the result will be optimal. For the manipulation, it is necessary to prepare a basin with warm water, washing gel or powder, laundry soap shavings, stain remover, foam sponge and a stiff brush.

Features of cleaning and the sequence of stages:

• Soaking will have to be abandoned in favor of surface treatment. A blanket can be soaked only in the presence of extensive pollution of organic nature. In this case, you will have to use a bathtub and gel detergents (it is almost impossible to wash powder from a cotton product).
• Before starting wet processing, the object must be cleaned of dry contaminants and dust should be removed. If you immediately wet the fabric, then harmless dust particles are absorbed into the filler, which will lead to spoilage.
• We lay out the prepared blanket on a dense horizontal surface. We prepare the active solution by adding shavings of laundry soap, liquid or dry laundry detergent to warm water.It is necessary to achieve complete dissolution of the product, otherwise the stains and the specific smell from the product are guaranteed and these phenomena can be eliminated only as a result of repeated washing.
• Next, cleaning begins. Dip the selected tool in the finished solution and process with it first obvious spots. Ideally, you need to walk the detergent over the entire surface of the product from two sides. If necessary, we apply stain remover to particularly stable formations. The main thing is that you don’t get wet through.
• After achieving the desired result, you can start rinsing. To do this, we collect cool clean water into the basin and with a clean sponge we also pass along the entire surface of the blanket. Only after eliminating all the signs of soap is it allowed to dry the item.

Even if puddles have formed on the surface of the blanket during cleaning, you cannot squeeze it. Just blot the problem area with a dry cloth until the matter remains dry.

How to dry a household item after washing?

The cleaned thing must be placed horizontally, maximally spreading all the folds and creases. The best option is to calcine the blankets in direct sunlight. In this case, ultraviolet light eliminates all pathogens, including dust mites. By hanging the blanket, it is possible to provoke deformation of the filler and breaking the clods formed will be difficult.

If lumps appeared during the processing of the product, then they must be systematically broken as the item dries. To do this, use your hands or a suitable cane. When forming dense clods due to violation of all the rules for processing a cotton blanket, it is better to wash the product, stretching the problematic formations with your hands. After this, you need to dry again, but already taking into account the recommendations.

If the first time you could not achieve the desired result, you should consider replacing the product. It will not survive another aggressive work.
