We erase the ski jacket as a pro before the start of the season

For comfortable skiing, special uniforms are needed - light, warm, wear-resistant and water-repellent. All these qualities are endowed with a ski jacket with a membrane coating. But in order to maintain positive properties, such products need gentle washing with the use of special tools.

Membrane jacket

Ski Jacket Care

Winter sportswear is hard work and advanced manufacturing technology. The ski jacket should be warm, because, despite the active movements, the whole day must be spent on the street. Easy, because in the mountains every extra kilogram is felt. Passing steam to prevent sweating or freezing. Water repellent - for protection against wet snow. Compliance with all these criteria became possible with the invention of the membrane - the thinnest tissue with micro-holes through which vapor from the body exits, but moisture does not penetrate from the outside.

However, the membrane can be different, and you need to take care of the ski jacket in accordance with its type.

  1. Hydrophilic poreless membranes (some of the most expensive) can be machine washed in delicate mode. If not for the paint on the jacket, it could even be ironed.
  2. Microporous Membranes they also allow machine wash, but you need to very carefully choose a detergent - it should be liquid or carefully diluted in water, not contain bleaches, chlorine, conditioners and rinses.
  3. Combined microporous and pore-free teflon-coated membranes. It is these models of ski jackets that most. The top layer resembles rubber, which improves water-repellent properties and increases wear resistance. Unfortunately, it is very easy to damage the coating during washing (in the washing machine it crumbles). It is better to simply wipe the product with a damp cloth, and if it is very dirty, wash it by hand, turning inside out, and using a special tool.

Ski jackets are also without Teflon coating, but then they are treated with impregnation of DWR (Durable Water Repellency). It repels water droplets and they roll off without penetrating the tissue.

What threatens non-compliance with the rules for caring for a ski jacket?

  • Teflon coating rolls or sheds, impregnation (the latter can be restored) - the jacket will lose water-repellent properties.
  • The membrane will be damaged and the heat-saving properties will disappear - for sports such a jacket will become useless.

Membrane Laundry Detergents

Special Laundry Products

Often special gels and sprays for membrane care are sold in the same store with ski clothing. But you can find them in the usual department of household chemicals. Unlike conventional detergents, they do not clog the pores of the membrane, maintain and restore its breathing properties. Laundry detergent and spray impregnation spray kits are often sold in kits.

Popular manufacturers:

  • Toko
  • Grangers
  • Nikwax
  • Perwoll Advanced Sport;
  • Triumf Sports;
  • Sodasan Active Sport.

Many housewives use Ariel, Weasel Gel, or liquid powders for children's items to wash membrane jackets. They are considered less aggressive. In this case, it is recommended to halve the dosage so that the product is better rinsed out and the pores are not clogged with chemical residues.

Ski suit and laundry detergent

Handwash

The safest way to clean your jacket is to wash it by hand. This will take some time, but the procedure itself is simple:

  1. Fill the pelvis with warm water (30-40 degrees).
  2. Dissolve the detergent in it according to the dosage on the package or half as much (if the jacket is not very dirty).
  3. Place the jacket in a soapy solution and leave for 15-20 minutes for better cleaning.
  4. Massage and clap your hands along the fabric. Especially dirty places can be rubbed with a soft brush or cloth.
  5. Now the jacket must be thoroughly rinsed in warm clean water. It is recommended to change it at least 3 times.

Despite the existence of safe washing methods, ski jackets are advised to wipe with a soft cloth or a cleaning cloth if possible. Preventive cleaning is inappropriate here. Membrane clothing is designed for sports and high-quality body protection, and the neat look of the jacket is in second place.
