As for the different types of eyelets and recommendations for washing them, we have the following:

  • Wooden eyelets do not tolerate water, they quickly deteriorate, varnish and paint are washed off from them. Such curtains can only be washed manually, avoiding wetting of the edge of the fabric with accessories.
  • Metal eyelets can rust from prolonged exposure to water or peel off when using bleaches and too aggressive detergents. But you can load them into the washing machine.
  • Plastic eyelets are the least whimsical. The curtains on such rings can be soaked and washed in a washing machine at low speeds. The exception is cheap options, where paint or gilding is applied to the plastic on top, which can come off from any contact with water.

Before loading the curtains on the grommets into the machine, you should make sure that the accessories are securely fastened, and that there are no hooks or holes on the fabric.
