Riddles for men: why does a wife add vinegar to a washing machine

My husband is a creative person. That is absolutely not a physical-engineering mentality. Therefore, when he saw me pouring vinegar into my washing machine with glasses, he experienced genuine horror: would he not spoil such a “balm” linen and the machine itself? And it was logical to think that acid can actually become an invaluable and, moreover, a very inexpensive assistant, my husband did not succeed. Therefore, I had to explain to him for a long time, in detail (and then to demonstrate more clearly), why vinegar is so good at washing clothes in an automatic machine. If you have my words cause the same bewilderment as his, read this article to the end.

Vinegar in a washing machine

Why do you need to “mock” so much underwear?

Whoever would “mock” me so, I tell you. Judge for yourself what a magic tool. Thanks to him, I can really do a lot:

  • I maintain the brightness of colored things: vinegar protects the fibers of the fabric from fading and dissolves soap scum, which makes the clothes washed (the situation is familiar to many when things have to be washed too often or the hostess sprinkles more powder than necessary).
  • I manage without expensive fabric softeners - vinegar makes things much softer. Washing with terry bath towels and bed linen is especially effective: it is their roughening that is not most comfortable for us, and a powder coating can even cause allergies.
  • I do not use antistatic agents. In any wardrobe, probably, there are things that are electrified, stick to the body. If vinegar is added to the powder during washing, it will easily solve this problem.
  • I do not buy bleaches. Yellow spots from hard water or the gray color of once white linen does not scare me: acetic acid saves me from this scourge in two ways.
  • I'm saving myself from the cat. More precisely, from his endless, long wool on clothes, especially pile and wool (and we have a lot in our wardrobe). After washing with vinegar in a washing machine, the “detach” wool becomes much easier. Probably, the same antistatic effect works: the villi just stop sticking so hard. After all, the same thing happens with hair if you rinse it with vinegar after washing: not only shine, but also do not “shoot” sparks in contact with a plastic comb.
  • I don’t remember what “cool” stain removers are. Chocolate, coffee, juices, preserves, fruits and vegetables, rust, sauces, mustard, marinades, oil and fat, traces of deodorants or perfumes and indeed the dirt on our clothes do not stay too long due to vinegar. And if you add soda to it, you can be sure that even a stubborn stain will not survive.
  • I beat off smells. And the need for this often arises: the linen is in the closet and has got a musty smell; something fell out of the laundry basket in the bathroom and became damp; brought a new thing from the "second-hand" (in our crisis time, I think few people can be surprised by such purchases); friends came to her husband and “smoked” all the curtains and cushions; changed her perfume, and the fragrance of the previous ones still lives on her favorite woolen blouse ...
  • I’m not afraid that a new red T-shirt will fade and dye my favorite blue sundress: soaking a new thing in vinegar fixes the color, preventing the clothes from staining in the machine during washing (earlier this often happened to me, especially if a colored thing accidentally hung out among light ones during sorting before washing).
  • I wash new things from the specific smell and these nightmarish impregnations, which give the laundry a marketable appearance.
  • Finally, I protect the machine itself from scale, mold, bacteria, deposits of dirt and bad smell.

Do not be afraid to use vinegar for washing, softening and bleaching diapers, vests, romper suits and other little things of babies.Unlike powders and gels, (often even special ones for children), vinegar will not cause the baby to itch, rash or sneeze, since it is a hypoallergenic drug.

That's why you need to use vinegar when washing. By the way, among other things, vinegar does not leave any traces on linen, unlike many industrial products.

Adding vinegar to the washing machine

How much vinegar is needed?

Did I intrigue you with the almost limitless possibilities of ordinary table vinegar? So, you probably want to know how much vinegar is needed for such procedures. I share. There are two main dosages: a glass and half. Just for different purposes it is used in different ways.

Half a glass of vinegar should be added if vinegar is used as:

  • air conditioner (poured into the compartment for air conditioners);
  • antistatic (vinegar can be poured into a cuvette for conditioner or powder);
  • bleach (pour instead of air conditioning).

The same half a glass will be needed to refresh the colors of your favorite things, as well as for cleaning from wool, processing a new thing or bought in a "second."

Do not wash acetate silk items with vinegar: it is extremely sensitive to acids and solvents, so almost completely clothes will be hopelessly spoiled.

To block molting, soak a “suspicious” thing for 20 minutes in a solution of vinegar with water (50x50).

For more radical cases, you need 1 cup of vinegar. For example, to remove stains, remove persistent, heavy odors, protect the washing machine itself from limescale, soap, dirt, odor, mold, bacteria. In this case, pour vinegar into a powder cuvette. The machine should arrange vinegar prophylaxis once a month.

And finally, one more tip. Use vinegar for a comprehensive effect: add to washing powder and to the rinse aid compartment. So you will kill all rabbits at once: you can wash, bleach, soften clothes and disinfect your favorite washer.

Hopefully the fans of vinegar washing arrived today. Or will arrive as soon as you try this affordable and easy way to solve all the “linen issues”. Interestingly, will it turn out to be a difficult riddle for your husbands?

    I added citric acid when washing clothes in the Assol machine, everything was fine. After washing, I washed the car well and dried it. After a month I started washing clothes, but the drum stopped spinning inside the machine! I think that the acid destroyed something inside the machine!
