Do you need decorative boxes? Of course, much can be kept simply in cardboard packaging or bags somewhere deep in the pantry or in the bowels of the garage. But for the storage of books, linen and the like things will require something more cute and neat. Interestingly designed boxes will not only help to keep things in order, but will also be an attractive detail of the interior. And even for those who don’t really like and can do needlework, it will be easy to make such boxes, let alone real craftswomen.

Glue the box with our own hands

The easiest way to make a storage container with your own hands is to glue an existing cardboard box with something. It can be a variety of materials.

• Remaining wallpaper after repair. The box designed in this way will be hardly noticeable, which means that it will not visually eat up the space even in a small room.
• Self-adhesive decorative film. This material is very convenient to use and has a large selection of colors and textures, which makes it very popular. A big plus of such a film is that it can be wiped with a damp cloth during cleaning, the decorative coating will not suffer from this, and the film itself will not peel off.
• Colored paper or cardboard. They will help to realize any fantasies and with their own hands turn a simple expressionless box into a bright and original interior item.

If you are reluctant to mess with glue, you can use double-sided tape on a fabric or paper basis to glue paper or light fabric.

Box of old magazines

An interesting and original material for decorating a decorative box is unnecessary magazines, more precisely, their individual sheets folded into tubes. Depending on the desired color scheme, you can use black and white or, conversely, very bright pages.

To make the tubes the same size, it’s better to wind them up for something - for example, Chinese chopsticks or cocktail straws. There is no need to glue the magazine sheet along the entire length, just do it on the last few centimeters. It is more convenient to use stationery glue in a pencil. He holds a dense fabric poorly, but it fits perfectly for paper.

Next, you need to prepare the base box - if the paper tubes are placed vertically, then it must be glued to the strip of double-sided tape at the bottom and top, and if horizontal - then, respectively, along the edges of each of the side surfaces. Then the pre-wound tubes are gently glued to the box.

Boxes for storage decorated with their own hands with various cords will look interesting. Instead, you can use yarn for knitting, floss thread and any similar items that are suitable in color. Of course, fixed on glue or scotch tape, the thread will hold on more firmly, but even if it is simply screwed tightly, attaching only the tips, then nothing bad will happen.

In the baskets for storing dirty things, it is necessary to provide ventilation openings, otherwise the laundry will smell unpleasant even after several days of lying in such a box.

Box for home textiles

For storing towels, bedding and similar items, you can sew a box of fabric with your own hands. To keep its walls in good shape, any dense objects are sewn into it, even ordinary cardboard. But the ideal option would be a plastic canvas, which can be found in any needlework store.Due to the holes, it will let air through, and thanks to the material it will not suffer if it is accidentally wet, it can even be washed if necessary. Such plastic is easily cut with ordinary scissors, usually produced in the form of rectangles or circles. Accordingly, the canvas can be used for boxes of absolutely any shape.

Along the edges of the box, so that they do not fray from constant use, a fringing is made of dark dense material.

Tighten the box with cloth

For gluing, it is important to choose a sufficiently dense and rigid box, because thin walls will not even withstand fabric and decorative elements, not to mention the contents of heavy things like books.

Since the fabric cannot be removed from the box for washing or ironing, it is better to choose durable, non-marking materials with at least a small amount of synthetics so that they do not crumple. Before gluing the fabric, it must be washed and ironed. If it is a thin material, then to make it denser and better keep its shape, it can be starched or gelled. Thin cloth can be perfectly attached to double-sided tape, but a denser and heavier one is better put on glue.

Cutting the fabric with your own hands, it is necessary to leave allowances of at least 2-3 centimeters on each side.

If in the manufacture of the box with your own hands, not quick-drying glue was used, but similar PVA compositions, then they need to give time to dry and only then load the box. This will take at least a day.

To store various small things like jewelry, boxes can be divided into cells. To do this, you need long strips of cardboard. In each, after a certain distance corresponding to the size of the cell, an incision is made in half the width of the strip, then all the strips are inserted into the resulting grooves. This lattice from partitions does not even need to be specially specially fixed to the walls, it itself will hold tight enough.
