How to clean the coffee machine correctly and quickly?

How pleasantly invigorates in the morning a cup of fresh, alluring, enchanting coffee drink ... Many people around the world start their day with coffee, and some of them use special devices for this, sometimes not knowing how to properly clean the coffee machine. We tried to explain the entire cleaning process in an accessible and detailed way.

We divided all the work into two stages, the first of which will be much simpler than the second. It’s worth starting the work by removing visible impurities, additional washing of everything that can be removed. The continuation will be the washing off of the scale accumulated during operation.

Coffee machine

We clean the coffee machine body and all the parts to be removed.

Before getting rid of the scum, we clean the case. To do this, you should use either a slightly damp sponge, or a cloth slightly moistened with water, preferably a synthetic one. It is undesirable and completely not recommended to use various cleaners and detergents, even the weakest and “harmless” ones, to remove old stains (if any). In addition to the case, at this stage it is worth rinsing and everything that could be very dirty and can be removed without difficulty. Different models of coffee machines are arranged differently, and therefore it is impossible to say what specific details it is worth trying to extract. We only point out that if possible it is necessary to wash the part where the grains are poured on - very often a lot of dust or some kind of strange dirt accumulates on them, which during the preparation of a coffee drink becomes harmless to humans, but leaves a mark on the coffee machine. In addition, it will be useful to wash the bowl where the finished drink is poured, especially if it is not done every time after preparation.

Some coffee machines are initially equipped with the ability to easily remove contaminants. Just put a special tablet with a cleaning agent and start the cooking process - smart technology will do everything for the owners.

But the question cannot be considered finished here - even if the outward appearance of the technique shines and looks clean, scum may accumulate inside, which must be disposed of.

Descale the coffee machine

Get rid of scale

Despite the fact that technology has stepped far forward in its development, sometimes the simplest ones, the so-called. "Grandfathering" methods show themselves to be the most practical in solving a particular issue. The same goes for scale. Simple citric acid becomes a cleaner for the coffee machine! Most housewives know this substance firsthand. Nevertheless, in the case of such an expensive technique as a coffee machine, it is worth describing the algorithm of actions in more detail.

  1. Descaling is our key goal. Initially, this requires only two components - boiling water and citric acid. As a result of a chemical reaction, a new substance is obtained, also an acid, which reacts with alkali. A school chemistry course called the neutralization of acid with alkali and, on the contrary, alkali with acid. There are scientific examples even in cleaning household appliances ...
  2. First, a liter of hot water is poured into the coffee machine, and citric acid is added to it. Usually, 30 grams of acid is used per liter, but there are times when this amount is not enough and you need to create a more concentrated solution by simply increasing the dosage of citric acid.
  3. Just before starting the cleaning process, it will not be superfluous to check whether there is a coffee drink, coffee grounds, or anything else that is clearly in the way during the cleaning process. This is very important: we are trying to get rid of the scum, and cleaning coffee also will not work.
  4. Now you can turn on the machine to clean the hydraulic system of the coffee machine from scale using lemon liquid, which was filled in advance by us in the tank. So, the machine turns on, but quite a bit of water is passed through the systems - about 150-200 grams. After that, the equipment turns off, and the hot water tap on it remains open. After a short time (5-7 minutes), the operation is repeated. Such actions continue until the water runs out in the machine. In this case, we can assume that there is no scale left in the machine. Now you need to rinse the coffee machine, so that later you do not drink coffee with a touch of citric acid.
  5. At this step, the usual operations are performed, the only caveat is that you don’t need to lay coffee, the machine needs to be washed with plain water, and if time permits, “boil” the water twice. Of course, before the second time, the water should be replaced.

Of course, after descaling, the sediment will again begin to appear on the entire hydraulic system ... But, using this algorithm, the next time you will cope with its removal, without even using special cleaning agents.

Fresh coffee from a coffee machine

Some nuances

We described the simplest and cheapest method of descaling above, but of course there are others. For example, it is not necessary at all to use citric acid for cleaning: in stores you can find special decalcifying agents, that is, preparations whose role is the removal of calcium deposits on the surface of coffee machine parts. But such cleaning products are not always available to the owners, and it is necessary to clean the machine. In addition, many simply do not trust all these “new-fangled little things”, preferring to clean the equipment in the same way as the owners of the old school did.

So, the question of how to clean the coffee machine no longer scares the unknown. We have put on the shelves the cleaning process of the apparatus, both descaling, and cleaning the body and various parts that are constantly involved in the preparation of an invigorating drink. We really hope that the operations carried out according to our advice have benefited your coffee machine and now morning coffee will be even tastier and, accordingly, will make the owners even more happy. Happy use and cheerful days!
