How to and how not to use an air humidifier in the apartment

The problem of dry air is relevant for most Russian families, especially in the heating season, when the humidity in the apartment does not exceed 20% (at a rate of 40-60%). To create a useful and comfortable microclimate, doctors urge you to use a humidifier. We suggest finding out how to do this correctly, depending on the type of equipment.

Humidifier

General rules

There are different types of humidifiers. To understand how to use a particular device correctly, you need to study the instructions that come with it. Manufacturers always put it in a box. If the book somehow was not at hand, we recommend that you study a number of rules common to all humidifiers.

Security measures:

  • Read the enclosed instructions before operating.
  • Use the appliance only in residential areas with dry air and appropriate specifications.
  • The humidifier must not be used in a room in which flammable gaseous substances are stored.
  • Switch on the device exclusively when assembled and in good condition.
  • Do not block the openings, especially where the unit draws air.
  • The outlet should be directed into the free space - in no case at a wall, furniture or flowers.
  • Do not leave small children alone with the humidifier or place it in an inaccessible place.
  • Do not repair the moisturizing technique yourself. Repair should be done by a professional.
  • Before assembling, disassembling, filling and draining the water, as well as moving the humidifier, the power cable must be disconnected!
  • The appliance must be installed on a level, solid place with unhindered access.
  • Do not touch the cable and buttons with wet and wet hands.

Operation of the humidifier
Operating Rules:

  • Before turning the humidifier on for the first time, let it stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Use the device if the room temperature is not lower than 5 and not higher than 30 degrees, and the humidity does not exceed 80%.
  • Fill the tank with soft water without high salt content. If tap water is hard, use filtered or distilled water. Otherwise, a yellow calcareous deposit forms inside the humidifier, as well as on nearby objects.
  • Despite the fact that most appliances turn off when there is a lack of water in the tank, monitor the amount of fluid and top it up in a timely manner.
  • Some types of devices have a niche for flavoring. Properly soak a cotton swab in oils and additives. Do not pour flavorings directly into the tank or pan capacity.
  • The water tank should be cleaned once every 2 weeks, moisturizing discs - once a month.
  • If the device is not to be used for a long time, the water tank should be completely emptied and the humidifier dried. To maintain the tightness of the seal, the plug from the water tank is recommended to be removed. Store the device in its original packaging in a cool, dry room.

Types of Humidifiers

Humidity control in the apartment can be carried out in various ways, from wet towels hung on the battery to the application of special equipment.

Humidifiers are divided into 4 types and differ in the principle of operation:

  1. Traditional. Humidifies air with the help of a quickly rotating disk. Moisture passes through it - and fog forms, which is carried around the room by a fan built into the device. Irrigation of air occurs naturally. The steam output is cold.
  2. Ultrasonic. The conversion of water to a vapor cloud occurs through sound vibrations. The role of the evaporator is played by a special membrane capable of high-frequency vibration. Steam (cold) is distributed around the room with the same fan.
  3. Steam. To moisten the room, a heating element is used. First, the water is brought to a boil, and then hot steam is circulated around by a fan.
  4. Air wash. The only device that takes air from the room. It passes it through adsorbing disks and water, and then it is already cleaned and moistened and sprayed out.

Working humidifier

Tips experienced

Learning the instructions is one thing, and encountering the humidifier in real life is another. People who use moisturizing technique for a year share some of the secrets:

  • It is a pleasure to breathe in moistened fresh air. But do not put the device at the head of the bed. Moisture gets on the bed, and sleeping on wet is a direct path to hypothermia.
  • A steam humidifier can be used not only to moisturize the air, but also to treat colds. To do this, essential oils are placed in a special compartment, which facilitate the discharge of sputum.
  • During illness, it is recommended that air humidity be increased to 70%. However, in the children's room at night it is better not to exceed the threshold of 60%. Otherwise, increased sputum discharge will interfere with restful sleep.

Humidifiers are undoubtedly a useful technique. They help regulate the humidity level in the apartment, thereby helping to prevent many diseases. Proper use of the device guarantees its long service life and the best work result!
