General cleaning of the vacuum cleaner: how to wash its internal parts from dust and dirt?

The life of household appliances depends not only on the manufacturer and product quality, but also on timely and proper care. Therefore, it will be useful for every housewife to learn how to clean the vacuum cleaner so that it works for a long time and efficiently.

Vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter

How to care for filters?

The filtration system is one of the main components without which the operation of any vacuum cleaner is impossible, whether it be a robot, a washing machine or a conventional dry-cleaning apparatus. Large and small debris settles in the primary filters, HEPA filters trap the smallest particles of dust and protect the engine from pollution. Starting to clean the vacuum cleaner at home, it is the dust collectors that are first washed or shaken. If this is not done on time, the suction power of the device will decrease and the quality of cleaning will decrease.

Filters come in several types, and each requires special care.

  • A dust bag in the form of a fabric or paper bag - the most common and common type of filter. It can be disposable or reusable. In the first case, we are talking about paper bags, which, when filled, require replacement. A cloth bag as a filter can be used as many times as you like. When filling the fabric dust collector, the garbage is shaken out, and the fabric is washed with detergent.

  • Water filter is a plastic container filled with water. Absorbed dust enters the liquid, gets wet and settles at the bottom of the container. To clean the filter, pour dirty water and rinse the plastic container under the tap.

  • In a vacuum cleaner with a cyclone filter polluted air passes through a special container in which dust and debris are compacted and settled. To clean such a filter, simply shake it out and rinse the grooves and recesses in the structure with clean water and then dry it. The manufacturer recommends doing this work after each cleaning.

  • Nera filters designed to retain microparticles up to 0.3 microns in size. They protect the engine from dust and clean the air emitted by the vacuum cleaner into the room. These items also require cleaning.

    For the manufacture of disposable HEPA use paper or fiberglass. They cannot be washed, but can be shaken out or vacuumed. If the fine filter is used for a long time and is very dirty, it is better to change it.

    Reusable HEPA is made of PTFE, so they can be washed. For cleaning, the filter, along with the cartridge, is soaked for several minutes in a warm soapy solution, then washed with running water and dried well.

If the HEPA filter is not completely dried, then fungus and mold may form inside the material. Spores of the fungus with discharged air can enter the room.

How to clean a vacuum cleaner

Before cleaning, disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the mains, install it on a flat, waterproof surface, wind up and remove the electric wire. Features of caring for a particular model can always be found in the manufacturer's instructions, which comes with the device.

You can also use the following algorithm for cleaning a household vacuum cleaner:

  1. Unscrew and disconnect the hose. If the corrugated surface is very dirty, wash the hose with soapy water. Sometimes large debris gets stuck inside the hose. By connecting the pipe to the outlet and turning on the vacuum cleaner at full power, you can easily eliminate the blockage.
  2. Open the housing, remove all filters and clean them, depending on the type: wash or shake.
  3. Wipe the inside of the compartment with a damp cloth. If dirt has accumulated in corners or grooves, it must be cleaned with a long-bristled brush or other improvised means. The clean compartment is thoroughly wiped with a dry rag.
  4. Blow out the compartment in which the engine is located. Since all filters from the device have been removed, when cleaning the engine, contaminated air will escape into the room, so it is better to carry out work outdoors. To purge the motor, connect the device to the network. By switching the power or swaying the vacuum cleaner body from side to side, it is possible to increase the efficiency of cleaning the unit.

Now is the time to put the dust collector and filters in place, close the vacuum cleaner body and wipe the outer surface of the device with a damp cloth.

Turbo brush cleaning

Modern models come with various nozzles that allow you to better clean the room. These items must also be looked after. Lumps of dust, animal hair and hair, and large debris stuck in the brush make the engine difficult to operate. It is especially difficult to clean the turbo brush, the wheels and the shaft of which are wound around themselves with threads and wool.

Cleaning the turbo brush is as follows:

  • remove the brush from the hose handle;
  • shift the latch and remove the protective cover;
  • wipe the plastic surface with a damp sponge;
  • thread and hair wrapped around a roller with scissors;
  • the blades are washed under the tap and dried;
  • set the parts in place, close the brush body.

Properly conducted and timely cleaning of the vacuum cleaner is a guarantee of the durability of the device and fresh air in the apartment.
